Turning a New Page

Hello folks,

My name is Remington, but they call me Remi for short.   It's been a while since I blogged, so I thought I'd take a little time to re-introduce myself.  First, I want you to know some very important news:  I am just as handsome as I ever was.

So, here's a little of my story.  I retired from racing and came to GEGR in November of 2014; in January 2015, I was adopted and went to live as an only dog.  I did alright for awhile, but over time, I started to get anxious about meeting new people and especially about having strangers come into my home.  I would bark and make a big fuss if anyone new came over.  It made my family very nervous, and everyone agreed that it was best that I come back to GEGR.  I came back in April 2016 and have been living with my foster family ever since.  I have a foster mom and dad, a foster teenage 2-legger sibling, and 2 foster greyhound siblings.  We have all been working SO hard to help me overcome my fears and learn that people are really not as scary as I imagined.  And all that hard work has paid off!  A week or so ago, I got some really good news.  Foster mom said that I have done so well,  I'm now ready to meet my forever family!

I still have some fears.  One of them was coming here and telling you I still have some fears... because then, what if no one wants me?   But foster mom told me it was good to talk about it because being honest about things is the best way to help me find a family that's a really good fit.  She said my perfect forever family is out there, just waiting to meet me. Wow, isn't that a wonderful thought?

So, to help me find a perfect fit, foster mom and I came up with a list of things I'm looking for in a forever home:

1.  I need a family who is confident and has some dog experience.  I really rely on my foster mom and dad to give me guidance, help me feel secure, and show me what I should do.  When they are calm and confident, I feel much better because I know they are in control of the situation, so I don't have to worry as much.

2. I'd prefer a home that is a little less busy - one that doesn't have lots and lots of unfamiliar people coming and going all the time.

3.  I do better meeting new people when my family is present, so I would do better in a home that does not use an outside dog walker who comes in when my family is away.

4.  I love older kids, but young kids still make me a little nervous, so I'm looking for a home with adults.  A home with teenagers over the age of 15 is probably fine too!

While not required, I would also like a home with:

1.  Big soft beds because I'm a big, soft guy!

2. Toys to cuddle

3.  Mini-me greyhound sibling not required, but I do enjoy the company of my foster siblings, and aren't we cute?

4. Personal ear scritcher - ok, yeah, that  actually IS a requirement.

I hope you'll check back frequently to see how I'm doing in foster care.  Foster mom and I will be sharing more of our adventures.  And if you think you might be the special family that gets to be my forever family, please fill in that online application!  The nice folks at GEGR would be happy to talk with you to see if we are a good fit.

Until next time,

Remi

Hi folks! Remington Steal here! Wow has it been busy here! All these howl a days are finally done with, maybe we can get down to regular life :)
ok this is my favorite spot, right in front of the stove, perfect to clean up anything you might accidentally drop or possibly trip you if you are not paying attention to where I am at all times.. "innocent eyes" I would never intentionally try and trip you! :) honest!  ok foma says to tell you some things about me.  I am now up to a great weight of 88.6 lbs , so I am a big boy. I am the strong silent type, but still an alpha male.  I just walk in the room and all the other dogs know I'm in charge :)

I don't have a mean bone in my body, but I do want someone who knows about and how to deal with big dogs.  A regular greyhound collar and winter coat will not fit me, I'm extra big and sweet.  I love hugs and kisses.  I will play for about 5-10 minutes and then I'm beat and down for a nice nap.  I may try and climb on your lap if you are not feeling well, to make you feel better of course as foma can attest.  or maybe I secretly want to be a lap dog.
I eat in my crate wonderfully, and foma doesn't even lock the door, just closes it and I lay down and wait patiently until someone opens the door to let me out.

I have the sweetest nature and love people, I am not easily startled by noises, fireworks or pretty much anything.  I am easy going, only getting excited during meal times or when my people come home! :)  Again, I am a big boy, but a total love bug.  I have no issues with cats but they seem to have issues with me.  I am not fond of shiny floors but will walk on them, sometimes a little too fast and will slip occasionally.
If you want to open your heart to a big loveable sweet natured guy, please drop the folks at Gegr a line. Oh, and you might want to watch your coffee cup, as I will sometimes take a sip just to join in your morning ritual.  :) I am easily correctable, just show me a water bottle and I know to back off.
Looking forward to seeing my forever family! Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Hi ho folks! I've been loving this retirement gig! And I don't know which is better, dog beds, treats, or toys? I just can't decide! It's all so awesome! and I am LOVING it!

Hey there! My foma just wanted you to see how "cute" (did she REALLY use that word for me?) I am when I play, as I have just today discovered the toy box, and um well pretty much emptied it.

here are some pics foma took of me playing :) enjoy my suave good looks! :)

Hi ho! Remington Steal here, been pretty quiet around but I will show you some of how I am finding retirement.

my foster folks did save some nom noms for us on Thanksgiving Day, and boy howdy was it an awesome treat! My foster sisters and I really enjoyed it!
This is me asking if I can come in, I just gently bump my muzzle on the door.  Foma said I was knocking on the door like they do. she thought it was cute.

Foma wanted to show you how tall I am, just even with the counters, which I know now, are a no no to surf for treats.
Sunday we went to this place called a Farmer's Market, and we were having a good time sniffing around, and then we saw these noisy feathered things! OMG! Have you ever SEEN these things? wow! they just took me by surprise, I so wanted to go in there and investigate, but foma said that might be a bad idea.

Foma, are you SURE I can't go in there?  You did say you wanted chicken for dinner, right? Oh ok, but I still think it would be a fun time.
This was after our trip to the Market, don't I look stunning basking in the sunlight?
And foma was super happy to see me do this, even though she said it wasn't quite a proper roach, it was close enough.. proper my foot, I was still upside down! :) I love lying on the dog beds and foma wanted me to tell you I have never attempted to get on the furniture.
well that's all for now!  If you have fallen for me and would love to take me home and spoil me and give me tons of loving, please let the folks at Gegr know!  They'd be happy to help you take me home!

Hi folks, my name is Remington, Remington Steal or Remi for short.  My foster ma says my name is so long cos I will steal your heart away, and all the girls just swoon over me. hehe well I don't know about that but I am a handsome feller as you can see by this pic..

I am a big boy, but as gentle as a lamb, all 82 lbs of me.  I came here on Nov. 22nd and have been making myself at home here.  It took a while, so many things I wanted to investigate I was told NO! For a while there, I almost thought that was my name! But it's all good, I got that there are just places a big guy isn't supposed to stick his nose into.  But I did find these things called dog beds....
I am a very sweet natured guy, I pretty much like everyone.  On the subject of cats, well I usually just don't see them or notice them at all, unless they come right up to me.  If they get mad at me, I might notice them but I then just leave them alone.
I found I quite like rawhides and treats and I take them very nicely.  I am still sort of a bull in a china shop so to speak or so my foma says, but I am very sweet and foma says I correct pretty easy.  I do LOVE food, so I am still learning my table manners.  I am not skittish at all around loud noises or strange things, I just take it all in. Well foma and her family are all cooking in the yummy treat place called the kitchen today and it spells SO good!!!  I hope they save some of those nom nom's for us dogs!!! She said it is for Thanksgiving, and I can tell you I am VERY thankful I am off the track and that my new home is around the corner.  Are you my new forever family?  If you want a big, handsome, sweet natured fella, well drop the nice folks at GeGR a line and I hope to see you soon!
